Energy: Curious, skeptical, and still mostly numb

❤️‍🩹 Status: Trying a homemade neuropathy remedy

🤔 Outlook: At this point, if it might help my feet, I’m listening

Yesterday, while I was at the retirement celebration, one of the drivers told me about a homemade remedy he has been using for the neuropathy in his feet.

Now, his neuropathy is not chemo-induced, so we are not exactly comparing apples to apples here.

Maybe apples to radioactive crabapples.

But at this point, with the pain, the burning, the tingling, and the fact that I would like to feel more than just my heel when my foot hits the ground, I am willing to try almost anything once.

Within reason.

Mostly.

The remedy he stumbled across is pretty simple:

8 ounces of hot water
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt
Lemon juice or honey to taste

Drink it first thing in the morning before eating anything, and supposedly it may help neuropathy symptoms within a week or two.

Again, I am not a doctor.

This is not medical advice.

This is not me saying everyone should run to the spice cabinet and start making yellow swamp water at sunrise.

This is simply me saying that when your feet feel like they are burning, buzzing, half-asleep, and walking on hot gravel, your standards for “worth a try” get real flexible.

Chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy is rude.

Very rude.

It is one of those side effects that keeps hanging around long after treatment is done, like an unwanted houseguest who has taken over the recliner and keeps asking what’s for dinner.

My feet are still numb.

My toes are still weird.

The burning still shows up.

My balance is still questionable.

And driving is still an issue because being able to feel the pedals is kind of important.

Apparently.

So yes, I will try the turmeric drink.

Will it work?

No idea.

Will it taste amazing?

Also no idea.

Will I make a face while drinking it?

Probably.

Will I report back if it helps?

Absolutely.

Because if this little homemade concoction even takes the edge off, you better believe I am going to share that update.

And if it does nothing?

Well, then I will have had a warm cup of spicy yellow disappointment and moved on with my life.

That is where we are now.

Trying things.

Asking questions.

Taking notes.

Hoping for relief.

Trying not to lose my mind while my nerves attempt to reconnect with the rest of the class.

So here we go.

Turmeric tea, you are officially on trial.

Please do not be disgusting.

And please, for the love of all things holy, make my feet feel like feet again.
