⚡ Energy: Pajama cardio before protein
💞 Status: Puppy walk turned neighborhood expedition
😟 Outlook: Apparently the girls had travel plans and forgot to tell me
This morning, I took the puppies outside so they could do their usual morning routine.
Sniff everything.
Inspect the yard.
Go potty.
Pretend they are tiny security officers in charge of the entire property.
Normally, they are really good about going down the driveway and taking a right turn so they can play in the grass and explore our property.
Not today.
Today, my sweet little girls chose chaos.
Instead of turning right, they turned left.
Toward the street.
And suddenly, as my grandma would say, their ears were in their pockets.
Mommy’s voice?
Meaningless.
The promise of puppy treats?
Ignored.
My very reasonable request that they stop trotting their cute little puppy butts down the street?
Denied.
They just kept going.
Happy as could be.
Like two tiny explorers who had packed snacks, checked the map, and decided today was the day they were seeing the world.
Meanwhile, I was behind them in my pajamas and slippers, trying to keep up like some kind of under-caffeinated neighborhood goblin.
Nothing to see here, folks.
Just a mommy chasing her sassy little girls before she has even had a chance to make her protein shake for the day.
Cool, cool, cool.

I had to circle them because apparently my puppies were already halfway to starting a new life.
Now, to be fair, we do not live in a regular little neighborhood where the houses are stacked on top of each other.
We live on a dead-end street and each home on our street has at least an acre.
Ours is two acres.
So when I say they went four driveways down, that was not four tiny city driveways.
That was a morning journey.
That was an expedition.
That was Maizy and Gidget apparently training me for some kind of cancer-recovery 5K I did not sign up for.
And let me tell you, I had a hard time keeping up.
These little girls may be tiny, but they can move when they decide selective hearing is the activity of the day.
Maizy especially looked like she was having the time of her life.
Miss Maizy the Wanderer.
Miss “I used to be timid and scared, but now I have places to be.”
Miss “Thank you for rescuing me, Mother, I will now lead this morning’s adventure.”
She has come so far from the tiny scared girl we brought home.
And most of the time, that makes my heart melt.
This morning, it mostly made me want to know why her confidence had to activate before breakfast.
Eventually, I got them back where they belonged.
Nobody was injured.
No cars were involved.
No puppy treats were accepted until they were good and ready, because apparently treats only work when the ears are not being stored in their pockets.
But I did get a lot of steps in today.
So I guess that counts as exercise.
Cancer recovery cardio, courtesy of two tiny dogs with big opinions.
Honestly, this is my life now.
Some days I do intentional movement.
Some days I do physical therapy.
Some days I walk carefully because neuropathy makes my feet feel weird.
And some days I chase puppies down the street in pajamas and slippers while silently questioning all of my life choices.
Balance.
Well, maybe not actual balance.
My balance is still questionable.
But emotional balance.
Today’s lesson?
Never trust two cute puppy butts with unsupervised decision-making power.
And maybe make the protein shake before opening the door.
