⚡ Energy: Myth-busting with a side of boob math
💖 Status: Another episode of “What Does Not Actually Cause Breast Cancer”
🧐 Outlook: Cup size is not the culprit
Today is another episode in our little miniseries about what does not actually cause breast cancer.
Today’s topic?
Breast size.
Guess what?
It does not matter if you are an AA cup or a G cup.
Your risk of breast cancer does not automatically increase just because your cup size does.
Big boobs are not a breast cancer invitation.
Small boobs are not a protective force field.
Apparently, breast cancer does not care whether you shop in the “barely there” section or the “structural engineering required” section.
Rude, but true.
So what actually does matter?
One big thing is breast density.
Dense breast tissue means there is more glandular and connective tissue and less fatty tissue. Dense breasts can increase breast cancer risk and can also make tumors harder to see on a mammogram.
And here is the tricky part:
Density is not the same thing as size.
You can have small dense breasts.
You can have large dense breasts.
You can have breasts that feel soft and still have dense tissue.
You cannot just look in the mirror, grab a boob, and say, “Yep, we’re good.”
If only.
Breast cancer does not accept the squeeze test as official screening.
Body weight can also matter, especially after menopause, because higher body weight is linked to increased breast cancer risk.
Genetics and family history matter too.
Things like BRCA gene changes, a strong family history, and getting older all play a role.
Which is why I always say, know your body, know your history, and ask the questions.
And yes, tumors in larger breasts can sometimes be larger by the time they are found, but breast size itself does not determine whether treatment works or whether someone can be cured.
So let’s clear this up:
Big boobs did not cause it.
Small boobs do not prevent it.
Medium boobs are not sitting safely in the middle wearing a little halo.
All boob sizes are invited to the screening party.
Lucky us.
The real message here is simple:
No matter what size you are, get your regular checkups.
Do your self-checks.
Get your mammograms when recommended.
Ask about breast density.
Pay attention to changes.
Do not ignore something just because your boobs are small.
Do not assume something is fine just because your boobs are large and lumpy by nature.
And please do not let embarrassment, fear, or “I’m probably fine” talk you out of getting checked.
Because breast cancer is not picky.
It does not care about cup size.
It does not care about convenience.
It does not care that you have plans.
It does not care that you hate medical gowns.
It does not care that the mammogram machine feels like it was invented by someone mad at women.
Get checked anyway.
From AA to G and every awkward bra size in between, your boobs deserve attention.
Even if they are Barbie boobs.
Even if they are gummy bears in progress.
Even if they are original equipment.
Even if they are flat.
Even if they are reconstructed.
Even if they are uneven little medical chest rocks currently causing emotional damage.
Breast size does not get a vote.
Screening still matters.
And Tiny Tina would like everyone to stop blaming cup size and start keeping appointments.
