Bunco, Loser Tables, and Mexican Food Because Obviously

⚡ Energy: Camping-social with a side of competitive confusion
❤️ Status: Learned Bunco and survived
😉 Outlook: Not champions yet, but we understood the assignment
Today we learned how to play Bunco.
Finally.
My parents never played, and Casey’s parents always said it was an adult game, so he never had the opportunity to learn either.
Which means two fully grown adults walked into Bunco night with absolutely no idea what we were doing.
Perfect.
Very on brand.
And honestly?
It was fun.
A little chaotic.
A little loud.
A little confusing at first.
A lot of dice rolling.
A lot of table moving.
A lot of “wait, where am I supposed to go now?”
But once we got the hang of it, we did okay.
Did we spend our fair share of time at the loser tables?
Yes.
Yes, we did.
Let’s not rewrite history.
But we also held our own.
By the end of the night, Casey was a 50/50, which means he won 12 games and lost 12 games.
Very balanced.
Very fair.
Very Switzerland of Bunco.
I ended up 13 and 11.
One game ahead, thank you very much.
Not bad for our first time.
Will I be obnoxious about beating Casey by one game?
Probably not.
Will I mention it casually whenever necessary?
Absolutely.
That is marriage.
Now, I know what you are probably wondering.
Tina, it is Friday.
What about Mexican food?
Do not worry.
We did not lose our minds completely.
Normally on Friday, we would be sitting in Jose’s section having Mexican food, because that is what civilized people do.
So obviously, since we are camping at Nehalem Bay, we drove into town and had Mexican food at the same little restaurant we always go to when we stay here.
Duh.
Tradition is tradition.
Camping does not cancel Mexican Food Friday.
That would be rude.
And possibly illegal.
I am not sure if you could tell by the 43-foot Taj Mahal parked at our campsite, complete with fireplace, washer and dryer, and hot shower, but we are not exactly die-hard wilderness campers.
We are not out here trying to prove anything to nature.
Nature already knows we are soft.
We drive into town.
We go shopping.
We go out to dinner.
We come back to our heated tarp palace and play cards and dice.
We are grown adults, and we can do whatever we want.
Ha!
That is the beauty of this trip.
It is camping, but our version.
A little campground.
A little beach.
A little rain.
A little glamping.
A little Bunco.
A little Mexican food.
A little “we are absolutely leaving the campground because there are restaurants and stores nearby.”
No shame.
No apologies.
Just adults on vacation, making memories, learning new games, eating good food, and enjoying the fact that nobody is the boss of us.
Except maybe the dogs.
And possibly my protein goals.
And my hydration.
And my immune system.
Okay, fine.
A few things are still bossing me around.
But tonight?
Tonight was Bunco, laughter, loser tables, Mexican food, and the kind of easy fun I have missed.
And I will take every bit of that I can get.
