⚡ Energy: Closet clean-out meets Facebook Marketplace treasure hunt
💖 Status: Forty pounds down and apparently between wardrobes
🧐 Outlook: Rebuilding the closet while rebuilding the woman
Apparently, losing forty pounds comes with a side effect nobody really prepares you for.
Nothing fits.
And I do mean nothing.
I used to wear an XL or 1X top.
Now I am in a medium.
I used to wear XL or 12/14 pants.
Now I am in a medium or an 8.
Which is exciting.
And also mildly annoying.
Because suddenly my closet looked like it belonged to a woman who had moved out and left her former life hanging there.
So I started going through my clothes.
So far, I have filled fourteen big ol’ black garbage bags with clothes and donated them to the Veterans, and I still have about a quarter of my closet left to tackle.
Fourteen.
Big.
Ol’.
Bags.
Apparently, when I clean out a closet, I do not gently edit.
I evict.
The strange thing is, cleaning out my closet has felt like more than just getting rid of clothes that do not fit anymore.
It has felt like getting rid of versions of myself I do not live in anymore.
Pre-cancer clothes.
Chemo survival clothes.
Radiation comfort clothes.
The “I don’t care what I look like, just let me make it through today” clothes.
The “please hide my chest rocks” clothes.
The “I am cold, nauseous, exhausted, and one inconvenience away from becoming a feral raccoon” clothes.
Some of those clothes served me well.
Some of them got me through really hard days.
Some of them probably deserve a medal and a warning label.
But they are not all coming with me into this next chapter.
Because I am changing.
My body has changed.
My shape has changed.
My hair is coming back.
My strength is coming back.
My attitude is definitely coming back.
And apparently my closet needed to be informed.
So, to start replacing all those empty hangers, I did what any practical, slightly impatient, bargain-loving woman would do.
I took to Facebook Marketplace.
And let me tell you, Facebook Marketplace has been coming through.
I found some really cute things that were actually pretty inexpensive, so today Casey and I went driving around gathering my new stuff.
A little wardrobe treasure hunt.
A little Sunday adventure.
A little “please don’t let this be weird when I pull into a stranger’s driveway for a blouse” energy.
Cancer has made me brave in a lot of ways, but Marketplace porch pickups still have their own special seasoning.
Rebuilding my wardrobe is going to be fun.
And since I am also rebuilding myself, I think I just might change up my look a little too.
Not because the old Tina was bad.
She was not.
She fought like hell.
She survived.
She showed up.
She got through surgery, chemo, radiation, shots, fills, side effects, body changes, hair loss, and all the emotional garbage that comes with Cancerland.
She deserves all the credit.
But I do not think I am supposed to go back to being exactly who I was before.
I think I am allowed to become someone new.
Someone lighter.
Someone stronger.
Someone with better boundaries.
Someone who still loves leopard print, cute shoes, and a good handbag moment.
Someone who may look in the mirror and think, “Okay. There she is.”
Or maybe even:
“There she is, but with upgrades.”

She is still sarcastic.
Still stubborn.
Still slightly inappropriate.
Still fueled by protein, dark humor, and emotional support shopping.
But she is also rebuilding.
One closet clean-out at a time.
One Marketplace find at a time.
One empty hanger at a time.
One new outfit at a time.
And maybe that is what this part of healing looks like.
Not some magical movie moment where everything suddenly feels normal again.
Maybe it looks like donating clothes that no longer fit the body you fought to keep alive.
Maybe it looks like buying a medium and realizing it actually fits.
Maybe it looks like letting go of the clothes that belonged to survival mode.
Maybe it looks like slowly making room for the woman who is coming next.
And maybe, just maybe, she is going to need a few cute outfits.
For medical appointments.
For dinner.
For leaving the house like an actual human.
For whatever new chapter is waiting around the corner.
And because, in true Tina fashion, if I am going to rebuild myself, I might as well do it with a little style.

Please stand by.
And maybe clear a little space in the closet.
